(b. Sansonate, El Salvador, 1954). Menéndez, one of the leading artists of El Salvador, lives in San Salvador. He had his first solo exhibition in 1976 at the Banco Atlacatl in San Salvador. His Surrealist paintings have themes of death and tragedy and depict the bodies of both rebels and peasants. Menéndez was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 1996.
