In 1976 Alfaro graduated with a degree in architecture at the University of Panama, but by 1980 he had traveled to New York to study painting at The Arts Students League. Alfaro's work is best placed in the categories of the Fantastic and Magic Realism. His canvases, however, embody at once the qualities of the mystical and the ridiculous. Despite the various references to artistic elements and painters, the end result of each painting is contemporary and singular to Alfaro. He has participated in group exhibitions since 1972 throughout Latin America, the United States, and Western Europe. Alfaro has also had solo exhibitions in Panama, Mexico, Venezuela, and the United States. RELATED ART ISSUE
