(b. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic,1961). Desangles merges Greco-Latin and African references in a pictorial language that has developed along expressionist lines and magical references of a personal nature, while engaging in systematic deformations. He presents his fables in harsh, "ugly" visions. Ease in the rendering of form and effusive use of color lend movement to a pictorial world of inexhaustible fantasy. His references also include Taíno shamans and contemporary television personalities. His paintings suggest a ritual interaction between nature, animal, culture and man.
