(b. Aguada de Pasajeros, Las Villas, Cuba, 1948). Sánchez studies at the San Alejandro Academy and the National School for Art in Havana. His early works were expressionist prints, but he began painting in the mid 1970's. His paintings of the tropics depict idealized, expressionistic landscapes such as those of his youth or garbage sites, the latter being political statements on environmental pollution. With their unusual angles, minute detail and geometric forms, his landscapes are personal photo-realistic mode of political expression. Sanchez emigrated to Florida in 1993.
