(b. Mexico, 1968).
From 1986-1987, Marco Arce studied with Gilberto Aceves Navarro. Arce creates small watercolor paintings of appropriated images from the art world including the recognizable images of the shot Chris Burden, Paul McCarthy vomiting, and the naked Carolee Schneeman. The images are chosen from art books and magazines, with the artist’s watercolors displayed as linear storyboards, juxtaposing various genres, decades and appropriated art. Arce also utilizes comic book and cartoon imagery.
Power Series, created in 1996, consists of 36 paintings, each a close-up, lightly abstracted view of a symbol of power, money, and beauty, or their opposites.
