(b. San José, Costa Rica, 1907; d. 1998).
He studied only briefly at the Academy of Fine Arts of Costa Rica but over the years, received scholarships to the University of Mexico, La Esmeralda School of Art in Mexico, and Argentina to develop his skills in watercolor, murals, and lithography. As one of the major artists of Costa Rica, he was a master painter, draughtsman, and printmaker. Amighetti was a poet, writer, and artist who published several books, painted murals, and illustrated for books and newspapers in Costa Rica. Over the course of 60 years, Amighetti exhibited his work internationally in galleries and museums in Paris, Romania, China, Japan, Israel, Germany, New York and all throughout Latin America. By the time he died on November 12, 1998, an artistic career of more than 60 years had made Amighetti a beloved international representative of the Costa Rican identity.
