(b. Santurce, Puerto Rico, 1955). Pepon Osorio is best known for his assemblages and large installation pieces. The artist attended the Universidad Inter-Americana in Puerto Rico and Herbert H. Lehman College in New York. He received an MA from Columbia University in 1985 and his experience as a social worker in the Bronx has influenced his neighborhood and immigrant focused installations. Osorio currently resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. "My principal commitment as an artist is to return art to the community," he says. In 100% Boricua, Osorio organized New York tourist souvenirs, Puerto Rican flags and Caribbean imagery, inside cabinet doors, because for the artist, the key to family histories and dreams are located as the keepsakes within a cabinet. Osorio desired to "collect an entire community's events and feelings in one place."
