(b. Havana, Cuba, 1958).
Consuelo Castaneda left Cuba in 1991. She went to Mexico and then Miami, two years later. The artist studied and taught at Escuela de Artes Plasticas San Alejandro and the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana.
Her work as a painter, photographer and multimedia installation artist has recently shifted to that of the Internet. Her focus is on creating interactive works that anyone with a modem and a computer can readily access. Her website design, art works for the web and database of the arts in Miami are Castaneda's newest projects. New York Miami is a cybernetic information center that links events, people, and places in the Miami area related to architecture, fashion, art and media. The piece features a series of animations that investigate what is apparent verses what is real.
Castaneda received the Cinta Fellowship as an installation artist, for 1997-1998. The artist participated in the Havana Biennials in 1984, 1986, and 1991. Her work
