(b. Paris, France, 1959).
In 1981 Restrepo started his Fine Arts course at the Universidad Nacional de Bogota. From 1982 to 1985 he studied Fine Arts at the École Beaux Arts in Paris.
Jose Alejandro Restrepo may be the most important video-artist of Colombian fine arts. He was one of the first artists to explore this media due to his personal interest in the multiple and complex relationships between image, sound, music and the position of the body.
The artist has shown fine intellectual skills and sensitivity in his work, together with a rigor in his research and a keen erudition. In his video installations he includes issues, integrating them within a specific space, and tries to unravel what is the role of myths in the nonofficial Colombian history, replacing them in their context so as to insert them again in our environment.
