(b. Güaimaro, Cuba, 1957; d. Miami, USA, 1996).
The art of the late Felix Gonzalez-Torres took many different forms during his relatively brief career but it was always motivated by his desire for dialogue and community. As a participant of the Group Material Artists from N.Y., he was known for creating large political installations. He then went on to develop his own style that featured a political agenda. He invited viewers to take part in the metaphorical and literal evolution of his work’s meaning. Gonzalez-Torres felt that participation grants his work a kind of perpetually renewed life and relevance.
