(b. Santiago, Chile 1937; d. Santiago, Chile, 1992).
Castro-Cid studied in Chile until 1961 when he arrived in New York City. In 1962 the Organization of American States awarded him a scholarship to study, the Guggenheim Foundation awarded him two fellowships to study, one in 1964 and the other in 1965 and in 1966 he was awarded the Copley (Cassandra Foundation) award. The exhibitions, both solo and group also began in earnest. Richard Feigen, Donald Droll, Frank Kolbert were among his earliest supporters, as were the Museum of Modern Art, Guild Hall, Guggenheim Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Larry Aldrich Museum. He was married to a super model - Sylvia, then a super art patron - Christophe de Menil (and designed her Amagansett estate - which burned to the ground in 1985, with it a valuable art collection) - Willem de Kooning, James Rosenquist, William Copley and George Plimpton were among his friends.In 1980, Castro-Cid moved to Miami, was given a solo exhibition at the Lowe Art Museum.
