Patricia Rodriguez was one of the leading muralists in the San Francisco area during the 1970’s. In 1972 she was instrumental in developing the group called Mujeres Muralists. They painted murals in the California area from 1972 until 1977. Rodriquez was born in Marfa, Texas in 1944. She taught at the University of California from 1975 until 1978. She began to paint murals in the community and participated in the group of Women Muralists that began in San Francisco in 1974. She participated in painting Panamerica at the Mission Model Neighborhood Corporation parking lot. She moved onto constructing boxes. The boxes featured masks of Chicano artists, religious iconography that influences the Mexican culture, and the conflicts that being a Chicana artist. The box titled, Dreams of My Ancestors functions with two levels. The bottom lower represents the underground that obtains Indian dolls laid dead on cotton. The upper level represents reality.
