Carlos Augusto de Martins Lacaz (b. Sío Paulo, Brazil,1948) Lacaz combines seemingly unrelated industrial materials in order to create images that either attract or repel each other, exploring the idea of improbable situations. In his philosophy, an actual object has priority over its reproduced image. Lacaz participated in the "Art in the City" exhibition in 1994, creating periscopes 28 m. high that covered the façade of the Eletropaulo building in Sío Paulo. The periscopes allowed observers at the top of the building to view the street and vice versa, creating an instantaneous visual communication and an interchange between two distinct planes. Lacaz has exhibited his work throughout Brazil, including the Sío Paulo Bienale in 1985, and at the Passo Imperial, Rio de Janeiro in both 1991 and 1997.
