Baravelli believes intuition is fundamental to the process of art, both creatively and critically. Everything in the pictorial world is of interest to him - technique, process, styles, resources, imagery and observation. His work seeks to reach the eternal. Baravelli applies various media to the surfaces of his paintings, often using drawings from life as the basis for his paintings. Both Picasso and Paul Klee were major influences on his development as an artist, and 1960s Pop Art gave him the freedom to work with a wide variety of imagery. Baravelli studied under Wesley Duke Lee, the prominent Brazilian artist of the '60s, who showed him the possibilities of experimenting with different processes, materials, and techniques. Baravelli also expresses his admiration for artists such as Matisse and Ben Nicholson, and particularly for the second generation of English Pop artists such as David Hockney, Peter Blake, and Allen Jones, among others.
