(b. Medellín, Colombia,). He graduated with a degree in architecture from the School of Architecture of the National University of Colombia, Medellín Campus, in 1974. He came to the United States for the first time in 1974, and in 1977 settled in Washington, D.C., where he has since lived. Before coming to the United States, Ángel developed a national reputation as an artist and author in Colombia. He presented several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions as well in many national competitions, receiving several distinctions for his paintings, drawings, and collages. While still in Medellín, Ángel was commissioned to design two relief murals in concrete and iron for public buildings. In 1975-77, Ángel published a bi-monthly art criticism leaflet entitled YO DIGO (I SAY).
