(b. San Pedro, Honduras, 1919; d.1983) He initiated his studies in the National School of Fine Arts, and then transferred to Mexico where he specialized in oil paintings and fresco murals. His Mexican experience definitely led him to a social realist style. His social realism is characterized in his paintings through the directness and violence of his scenes. Canales preferred dark and cold colors to give his paintings an atmosphere of protest.
