(b. Peru, 1912; d. 1988).
Abstraction became the pre-eminent mode of art in Peru in 1958, and it was closely linked to European Informalism and North American Abstract Expressionism. As a way to distinguish Peruvian abstraction from its international counterparts, artists employed several types of references to Pre-Columbian art. Among these abstract artists was Alberto Dávila, who by 1960 began to title his paintings with words that evoked pre-Hispanic cultures.
