(b. La Plata, Argentina, 1892; d. Paris, France, 1971). Sponsored by the providence La Plata, where he lived and was raised, Pettoruti was sent to Italy in 1913 to study painting. He joined the Futurist movement in Milan in 1913 and befriended Marienetti, Boccioni, Balla, and Carrá in Italy and Juan Gris in France. In the eleven years he spent in Europe, he made many contacts with various avant-garde groups, but was mainly influenced by the futurists and the cubists. He returned to Argentina in 1924. His art represents the new ideas that were just entering the consciousness of Argentina, modernity and the city experience.
