(b. Mexico City, Mexico, 1959). Since 1982, she has been a Researcher-Professor in the Department of Cultural Studies at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (Tijuana). From 1984 to 1988 she was the chair of the Department of Communication at this same institution. She received her BA in Social Anthropology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico), her MA in Communications from the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico), and her Ph.D. in "Communication Theory" from the the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). She has taught extensively on film history, gender and border studies at several institutions including, San Diego State University, California State University-San Marcos, Universidad Iberoamericana, and Universidad Autónoma de Baja California.
