(b. San Francisco, California, 1965). Roman de Salvo lives and works in San Diego. He received a BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts and a MFA from the University of California, San Diego. De Salvo¹s work involves transformations of everyday objects. Highly imaginative and often humorous, his carefully crafted sculptures reveal unexpected and witty combinations of materials and objects, highlighting contradictions between artificiality and reality. Stemming from an interest in the energy and movement involved in the use of man-made objects, a number de Salvo's installations and sculptures include "participatory" elements designed to encourage viewer interaction. In Garden Guardians, the artist placed joysticks along the barrier walls in the garden at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.
