(b. Guatemala, 1959). He was educated at the Universidad Popular and the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in the capital. At the age of 23 Cotton traveled to France to study lithography, and settled in the province of Albi where he lives today. His largely abstract works include a mixture of fragmented figurative symbols and landscape elements of both his native Guatemala and Albi. His treatment of color and light belies an appreciation for Monet's techniques, while his work deals with memory, cosmology and the meaning of existence. A noted source of inspiration for his work is the author Miguel Angel Asturias, whose books "Hombres de Maíz" and "El Arbol de la Cruz" he illustrated. Cottón's work has been shown internationally in both individual and group shows, and his work belongs in collections throughout the world.
